Everything like that is almost certainly a scam.

Yep. "Update missing drivers" is an oxymoron to boot (can't update what is not installed).

These "driver update" tools, "registry maintenance" utilities and similar are for the most part useless crap that only loads your machine with bundled adware and various time-limited crippleware, in the worst case it is malware.

Unless the utility is directly from Microsoft or the vendor of your motherboard, stay away.

Assuming no ransomware, that is another great way to make your rig their digital currency miner, best part is you installed it willingly.

Yes, it's a scam. Those "driver" advertisements are just a newer, sleeker version of the old, crude flashing "you're computer is infected" banner ads that try to get you to download "antivirus". Unless you know what you're doing, never download drivers from anywhere apart from the device manufacturer and do not download anything that claims to be a "download manager" to enable to you download a driver. They are bullshit.

It's the equivalent of going down to an auto-parts store and buying oil and an air filter, but also handing over a copy of your car key to the sales person just because they asked.

I think installing some of the lowest level software there is on a system from unknown sources is an excellent idea that can only lead to improved performance.
