Electronics Jobs for Beginners in UK
« on: March 04, 2012, 09:08:40 am »
Hi all..

I know it's a tough time in the UK job market. I have been looking to get a job in Electronics Engineering for the last two years. I should have applied for more than 300 or may be 500 jobs through agencies. Now I got an information through some of my friends that the jobs posted by agencies are fake. They are just posting it to get some CVs everyday. So can anyone please suggest me some good ways to enter into the UK electronics industry. Please help.  I really need someones help. I have been struggling for ages......Thanks.

When you say beginners...I assume you have some EE qualification?

I am not sure you are right in what you're saying about agencies, at least for the jobs I have applied for they actually exist.

The trouble with agencies is that the good ones are good, the bad ones - not good. When I was searching I found some adverts fake, some were real vacancies that had been filled but the agency left them up to boost the numbers on the site. I once saw an advert for a company that was just being wound up - they had just made me redundant.

Look at the adverts and see if they appear on several agencies. The wording usually stays the same so it is easy to see if the job is legit.  However most jobs in the UK are not advertised - they are filled by word of mouth or by an HR department having flagged a CV they have received.

I would recommend just putting some contact details on your CV, no exact address, no exact date of birth. This will reduce the chance of anyone being able to clone your identity.

Above all, include a covering letter that highlights your strengths and your compatibility with the job in question. This should be tailored for each application.

Good luck

Agencies will be more interested in higher-paid jobs so there is space for their commission - at the starter end , you may be better off avoiding agencies and just writing direct to all the companies you can find within your target industry and geographical area.
