Electronics Australia Magazine
« on: August 07, 2011, 03:31:05 pm »
I have been digging around my place lately and uncovered some dusty old EA magazines... and I was like, "OMG Moffat's Madhouse, the dude with the monocle... how could I forget...?" I practically grew up with these mags in the 90s. Apparently EA was the longest running electronics publication in Australia, until they sadly trashed it 10 years ago. Would be nice if could find the earlier EA mags, particularly the vintage ones during the vacuum tube era.

"Silicon Chip" now own the rights to the old EA & RTV &H/R&H magazines,so you might be able to get some stuff from them.

For the early RTV&H/R&H stuff, they can supply a DVD  which contains all issues.

Last I spoke with Leo about 6 months back, the plans for the EA DVD set were on the back burner.
A shame, because I think there would be a big demand for it.

Sadly Tom Moffat passed away a few years back.

I'd expect there would be demand for a DVD of the old ETI and AEM stuff as well, at least amongst us who used to read those. Once upon a time RCS radio were advertising that they were working on an AEM CD/DVD but it seems to not have materialized. I notice Bob Barnes at RCS died a month ago so I guess that may be the end of that.

I still have Tom Moffat's 'listening post' kit that I just never quiet got around to finishing....

That's a shame, I would have pre-ordered an EA DVD without hesitation. All that history, knowledge, and fascinating advertising.
"Your Computer" magazine would come a close third after ETI.

Yeah, I'm not entirely sure why he's gone cold on it.
Last I spoke to him about he mumbled about various stuff, I can't remember exactly. But I got the impression it might still happen one day.

SC have about 15K subscribers, at say $50 a DVD, that's $750K.
I'm not sure exactly how many would buy, but I'm guessing it would be at least half, given that a sub is now $100/year.

I'd definitely get the DVD if there is one.  I guess, getting all those old mags digitised must be a monumental effort.

Hi AntiProtonBoy,

I have a reasonably complete duplicate set from approx 1965-1972 and 1978-1985. I have been trying to find a good home for them. You can have them for the cost of postage if you like.

John
