Rigol DS1052D oscilloscope with logic analyzer
« on: November 13, 2010, 12:12:23 am »
I just received a Rigol DS1052D (the version with a 16 channel logic analyzer).
I bought it from Saelig in the USA because I could not find a distributor here in Canada.

Saelig's price was no better than anyone else's but they include a free carrying case
and they have been in business for a number of years so I was comfortable ordering from them.

The scope came with firmware version 2.04 SP1.

The logic analyzer pod connects to the front panel with a generous 30 inch ribbon cable.
The analyzer clips are small enough to attach to an SOIC chip without shorting adjacent pins
but they are too large for an SSOP package. I had a little difficulty attaching a clip to
an SOT-23 transistor but it can be done. (You can always solder a 30AWG whisker onto the trace you're interested in
and then clip the probe to the whisker.)

I attached the scope to my PC via USB. Windows 7 reports that it has no driver. It shows up in device manager
as "DS1000 SERIES".

I installed the Ultrascope software. The install script was in Chinese and corrupted text but I was able to get
it to install under Windows 7. When I launch the program I get runtime error '53', missing VISA32.DLL.

I am going to install National Instruments LabView (I have the Student Edition) and see if it contains the missing VISA32.DLL.

my win7 pc has that file, so it is a dll that can be installed into win7.  Not a vista only dll or anything

I seem to remember there being a two part process to get the software for my rigol running (1052E)
The ultrascope software and some other NI driver package or something, but they were both on the CD that came with it.
Maybe you should try download a fresh copy of the driver for your scope.
The cd may have been damaged and not installed both parts of the driver properly.
