However you'll pay more for your parts vs. buying from other companies like element-14 that don't use Paypal.

I will take paypal as a payment option any day. These days you can't trust using a naked credit card online.

I recently attempted to buy off RS Components and they ask a lot of unnecesary and personal info along with your credit card number when you buy...

You will seriously limit your options and won't be able to buy many more exotic components. Few if any of the large distributors will accept Paypal.

I'm not sure if I'd trust Paypal over Farnell or RS, they don't exactly have a spotless reputation. I don't see what the big deal is, just monitor your monthly statements and call your CC company if you see anything odd.

paypal are offering a visa card now that uses up your paypal balance if that helps. I think they are only offering it to a limited number of people though.

If you're that paranoid buy a prepaid Mastercard/Visa from Coles, Woolworths etc

I Completley agree with both of you. Vtl, it's just that I do like eBay, but I would like a good website based in Australia that can deliver to me within a few days, unlike ebay which takes a couple of weeks.

the speed of ebay depends on the individual seller and where they are located

I am always on the lookout for free delivery, maybe that's why. 
From Asia, it takes me about 2 weeks and a half.
From England, it's a bit faster, just under a 2 weeks.
The problem is, sometimes I need components fast within maybe 3 days and sadly most of the time they are really expensive in stores (about 3 times the cost for almost everything) so that's why I chose to buy online.

If you want parts on short notice, at a good price and free delivery, you need to use someone local with a credit card. Ignore the LCD stories about fraud - if you find a charge that wasn't yours - call the bank and they will either reverse it almost immediately for obvious ones or do the research for lesser ones and they're sorted out in a week or two.

Here's an idea - get a debit visa from your bank (etc.) , and keep the balance at $1. A few minutes before buying something you transfer in the amount of money you're about to spend from your normal cash account then make the Visa purchase. This gives you the use of the Visa system without any chance of loss.

Or if your volumes are high enough, get an account with element-14/RS/Altronics/Jaycar etc.
