(I apologize if this is not new. Tried searching)...
Our Phones are Android, but we still have an
iPad-Mini too. Apparently, as others will know, these
older generation iPads, (including iPad-II?), can not have their
O.S. upgraded beyond
Ver 9.3.5 .
Therefore, a lot of new updated apps like '
NetFlix' refuse to download for them! But there's away!
'Apple', in their 'wisdom' do not generally make older versions of Apps available from the Store, but
it has been found that downloading such Apps on a more modern device/iPhone first, changes the
playing field. (If you have such a device! If not, then read the next chapter). You can
THEN go to the
Store on your older iPad, select 'Purchased', (even though it was free), & download from the 'Cloud'.
THIS TIME, you will be prompted with a pop-up message to the effect...
"
Do you want to download an older version that is compatible with your device!". Select 'Yes' !!
It will do so, and you now have a fully functional App, like 'NetFlix', that all works fine !!
HOWEVER, I didn't have such an alternative more modern Apple Device to perform this trick with!
Not to worry!! If you have a
PC, (or
Mac), you can use their normally horrible '
iTunes' package!'
The
PROBLEM is, that all their newer releases have taken away the '
App' functionality. (Bastards!).
No problem though... Read on...
If you go to the following WebSite, you can download a perfectly legal
older version of '
iTunes'...
https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT208079It's called... "
Deploy apps in a business environment with iTunes"
Scroll down to... "
Install apps with iTunes", with options for Mac, PC-32, PC-64.
Completely remove your old 'iTunes' installation, after making a backup of your old 'Library' if needed.
If it complains that the Library is from a later version, simply rename it, and run again.
NOW you have a USEFUL version of iTunes that can deal with 'Apps' (again) as well.
'iTunes' can be a bit of a pig, and never made it easy to navigate. If lost, scroll to the bottom of the
original screens and select 'Apps' from the textual options. Go to the 'App-Store', find the likes of
'NetFlix', and download it. Don't worry about where it went, and you do
NOT have to be physically
connected to the PC etc. However, it has 'recorded' with your account that you are 'allowed' to have it!
You can even shut down iTunes now if you want.
Again, you now simply go to your iPad, Store, select 'Purchased' and download it from the 'Cloud'.
It will prompt you if you want an older version that works for THAT device, and that's it!!
Hope this helps somebody. It worked for me, after a lot of research & trials...
