NIST?
« on: March 10, 2019, 10:07:21 pm »
I understand that NIST may be under the budget axe but I am confused obout the current status. My "atomic" clock reset for daylight savings time. My shortcut to the live time signal page brings up a message that the address could not be found. Even links on the NIST web site do not work. A search, hitting anything that looked possible actually did find the signal but when when trying to set up a new shortcut, I lost it and could not find it again. Does anybody know the new address or any current news on the status of WWVB and WWVH? Thanks.

They are still running as far as I know. I can get WWV on 5 MHz shortwave in the evenings, and you can call (303) 499-7111 to hear the same broadcast via phone.

https://www.nws.noaa.gov/os/marine/wwv.htm

The latest news I can find is that NWS high seas advisories are no longer being broadcast by WWV/WWVH.

Interesting.

www.time.gov is broken, but .....
time.gov works, but pictures are broken because they're looking for www.time.gov

Probably just a DNS glitch.  Was time.gov down during the government shutdown?  Maybe they haven't got everything back working again.

IT'S FIXED!! I emailed NIST and informed them of the problem. I got a fast response from a tech saying he tried it and it worked. I responded that even  the link on the NIST site came up with "address not found. I found a link that did work but pressing the virtual "help" key on the time display brought up the same "address not found" message. I emailed him again and he said he would pass it on to their web master. A few hours later my shortcut icon works again. It seems strange that the US agency that supplies the primary standards for the country had to be told by some guy playing with his smartphone that their web site was screwed up. Could I be the only one to complain?

[rant]  :blah:
Our government runs like a well oiled machine...  :-DD  This is why I don't like the government taking over or starting any new bureaus... it just costs 10 times more than private enterprise and is 99% less efficient.

EDIT: BTW, nice job 6 point socket...
