Isn't it ironic that even fake US bills also have that motto on them?

We'll have to agree to disagree.  What would you say if it said "In Gods we trust" or "In his noodly appendage we trust" ?

I'm glad to see the lawsuit, because it shows how two-faced the USA is on this subject.  The US is too proud of proclaiming "we're so for separation of Church and State" when in reality it isn't so.

As for credit cards/Debit Cards, they aren't technically legal tender (they're only guaranteed by the bank), only US currency is in the United States is guaranteed by the government.

I don't like the phrase "God keep our land" in our national anthem either.

Agree to disagree?  oh boy.

We already have a society of easily offended people trying to change others views by litigation and hardly a majority.

I bet you'll be pissed off if you could not barbeque anymore, or eat any animals or plants and just use some PC substance via IV because other people will be offended to using mouths to eat because of oral fallacy imagery.

The junkies will be offended but no one cares on what they think so we don't have to be PC on that for now, but at the end it might be subcutaneal feeding.

The whole planet is turning stupid letting the easily offended entitled minority force rules to the rest of us.

No, I'm calling out the two-facedness of Americans who proclaim "Separation of Church and State" and then fail (in spades) to follow through.

For the record, I am easily offended that they are easily offended.

But somehow, no one cares about the rest of us.

While I'm not for all the religious stuff, the US Constitution does not say "separation of church and state". What is DOES say is that the government will not establish any official state religion. This was mostly in response to the Church of England. Hanging Judeo/Christian rules in a courthouse or putting a Nativity scene in a public park are not establishing anything. Both sides in these cases really just need to STFU. The religious nuts aren't being repressed, and the atheists aren't being harmed by any of this stuff. But these days you aren't an American unless you are offended by someone or something.

But these days you aren't an American part of the majority unless you are offended by someone or something.

That goes for people in Brazil as well. Anyone else?

What is stupid is that the United States has a Congress so backwards and ignorant that it would mandate putting such text on the currency in the first place. Every other enlightened nation in the world has a secular government. The USA remains one of the last modern theocracies, where people can actually organize "prayer breakfasts" in government circles and not think that it is in any way strange or peculiar.

Back in the day,we had "Fidei Def" on our coins---not the notes, from what I remember.

This has an interesting history.

Henry  VIII  wrote some massive screed decrying Protestantism,& was awarded the Papal title of "Defender Of The Faith" for his efforts.

Later, when the Pope wouldn't let him have his umpteenth divorce,he "spat the dummy", broke with Rome & set up the Church of England, with (of course) himself as the head.

The old turncoat kept  the title "Fidei Def" & passed it on to his successors.

Somewhere along the line,it quietly disappeared from our coins----even the Royalists didn't get upset!
Dunno if the Brits still have it

But wait! there's more!

It appears that we lost all the Holy stuff off our coins on St Valentine's day 1966 with the change over to Decimal currency.
Before that,Bess & her forebears were described as "Dei Gracia  Fidei Def","DG FID DEF" "DG FD",or various combinations of those.
Her Dad was "IND IMP",too, her Grandad was "King Emperor",& so on.

From Googling,it appears the Brits still have the "DG FID DEF" reference on their coins.

Canada has "DG REGINA"
New Zealand, like Australia, has no religious wording on their coins.

It's true that the Queen has the title "Defender Of The Faith" and that such is inscribed (in Latin) on the coinage.

But it's important to remember that in the UK the Government, the Crown, and the Church are in separate compartments so that they can have formally delineated roles and everyone is supposed to understand who does what. "DG FID DEF" is inscribed on the coins because the coins carry the Queen's head on them.

It would be considered entirely out of place for the government to engage in anything remotely religious in appearance as part of the business of government. It can be hard to understand from outside, but the British government is able to be secular because the religious bits of daily life are safely partitioned off somewhere else. They have their own place and they don't (or shouldn't) bleed over.

Wouldn't it be more useful to _restore_ crucial wording to the banknotes, as they used to contain but was removed?
Like this:

"This certifies that there have been deposited in the treasury of the United States of America twenty dollars in gold coin payable to the bearer on demand."

Keep removing text from the money, and eventually all that's left is funny money with no intrinsic worth. Oh wait, we reached that point long ago.
Words can have meaning and convey promises; pretty pictures mean nothing.

Google 'gold certificate note'.

Seeing how "In God we trust" is the national motto of the United States, maybe they should get that fixed first and worry about the money later. Probably moving to another country would be easier.

A straightforward history of the non-continuous use of the phrase:  https://www.treasury.gov/about/education/Pages/in-god-we-trust.aspx
Note that it did not become the official motto of the USA until 1956, and did not appear on paper currency until 1957, although it had been used on coinage at various times before that.

That's interesting. In 1933 FDR took the United States off the gold standard:
Quote
On June 5, 1933, the United States went off the gold standard, a monetary system in which currency is backed by gold, when Congress enacted a joint resolution nullifying the right of creditors to demand payment in gold. The United States had been on a gold standard since 1879, except for an embargo on gold exports during World War I, but bank failures during the Great Depression of the 1930s frightened the public into hoarding gold, making the policy untenable.
http://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/fdr-takes-united-states-off-gold-standard

Then after a while they add some rubbish text on the currency to the effect 'God will look after us.'
Because without any real physical value backing the paper notes, nothing else would protect them.

Once you get past the amount of gold coins a Scotsman can carry in his "sporran",gold becomes pretty unwieldy as a means of payment.

Apart from Jewellery, fairly minor use in Electronics ,& a few other "niches",it is not really necessary to modern society.
The productive capacity of a country,in terms of useful products to feed its people, house them, etc,is really a much better basis of currency value .

Fortunately for gold producing countries like Australia, people haven't caught on to this fact.
Indeed, the world desire for gold was the engine that drove much of the early development in this country.

One of the niches is gourmet cuisine, and some douchebags have been taking it to extremes: 12 stupid foods made with gold. It doesn't add flavour, it doesn't have any health benefits, but yet some idiots think it`s "a thing".
