MJ15025 transistors wrong polarity!!!!!!!!!!
« on: July 31, 2016, 05:16:03 pm »
Warning to those buying "1pair 1x MJ15024G + 1x MJ15025G MJ15024 MJ15025 ORIGINAL Audio power Transistor" this from fleabay. The whole batch are all NPN!!!!! There are no PNP type in my order. The label on the PNP's is a misprint. Can pm sellers name if requested. The wording above is the exact ad title. Buyer beware.  :wtf:  :palm: |O

Can you be more concise about your problem? Did you receive two transistors? One MJ15025G and one MJ15024G? But you think both are actually MJ15024G? Or did you receive two MJ15024G?

Hi, Yes, sorry. I ordered six pairs of complementary transistors, (6 x MJ15024G and 6 x MJ15025G). Supposed to be NPN and PNP respectively. They are all NPN. The PNP type are mis-labled on the cans. Apologies for confusion.

How did you check / determine this?

First with an Atlas transistor tester then confirmed by diode test function on DMM. Yep - all NPN! Test test test............

Probably not original either, just some generic NPN transistor die.

In this case I would suspect that both transistor types you bought do not meet the specifications of an original MJ... In other words, fake transistors all around.

Oh, the "whys" of the datasheets... The information is there not to be an axiomatic truth, but instead each speck of data must be slowly inhaled while carefully performing a deep search inside oneself to find the true metaphysical sense...

Both types you have bought are fakes with 95+% probability.

*ANY* flanged metal TO-3 or TO-66 package transistor on EBAY that isn't in an identifiable original dusty faded  NOS box bag or blister pack is probably fake.   There are sufficient AudioPhools out there to make faking them popular, and all that's needed to fake them is a supply of *anything* in the right package, paint stripper and/or metal polish to remove the old markings and an ink stamp to re-mark with a fake number, batch code and logo.   Its well within the capabilities of any 3rd world board-roasting component 'recycler'.

Yep, I would say they're even 100% fake ! @ddelectrical, please post the link or some pictures of those transistors. I'm specialized for counterfeits especially for TO-3 package transistors.  ^-^ Well, if you have time and a hacksaw, try to 'peel' off the top. I bet there will be 2 small paralleled dies covered with white silicon glue. Been there, done that mate.  >:D

Hi,
To the original poster, it would be good to cut the top off one of the transistors and take a picture of the silicon die.
There are many ways to open them. My favorite is to file around the edge of the top with file at 45 degrees.

Here is a picture of a MJ15025 (PNP) that I am 99.99% sure is genuine. I bought a bag of them locally, the date code is 9228, the 28th. week of 1992.

Look at the size of the silicon die.
Notice that there are two emitter leads and one base lead coming from the die to the pins.
Note that the die is mounted on a heat spreader.

I have shown you mine, now let's see yours ....  :D

There is probably not enough silicon to photograph /s

Seriously, I would expect any chinese product from Ebay with silicon in it, to have at least 1 fake/dodgy component in it.
Last week I bought a few MPU6050 boards for 1.75$ each. That includes a small PCB with the MEMS, voltage regulator, passives, pre-assembled and comes with 2 unmounted pin headers in an (presumably) ESD bag.

I can also buy 1 MPU6050 chip from Farnell 18.82 euro incl VAT. Or if I buy 2000, 8.20 EUR, EACH.

Go figure. It's probably not a MPU6050, but a clone that's "protocol compatible", likely with worse specs. You get what you pay for :)

Or, possibly a genuine part that's one of a few tens/hundreds of thousands that were destined for the internals of a cell phone before it got superseded by a newer, better, smaller or cheaper version.

It's quite interesting to see the modules appearing on eBay that use chips intended for cell-phone or tablet use, the market moves so fast and drives the technology, leaving us with the overstock to hoover up cheap.

That's highly overpriced for what it is. That sensor is for smartphones, tablets and other consumer devices. Even at $2 barely anyone would use it in high volume products.

Hi all. Thanks for the great replies. New batch ordered from Mouser already! So, I will have a look in these cans this week some time. I am new to the board and really appreciate the feedback. Will try to get some naked transistor pics posted soon. Is that kind of thing even allowed on here? LOL. Very busy schedule here so please be patient. Thanks again.

I suspect the listing is this one:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1pair-1x-MJ15024G-1x-MJ15025G-MJ15024-MJ15025-ORIGINAL-Audio-power-Transistor-/251672882415?hash=item3a98df6cef:g:neMAAOxyQfJTfEh7

Some other feedbacks also suggest that the occasional fake gets sold:
