Anynoe else want to burn down Chanel HQ?
« on: November 12, 2014, 05:35:46 am »
Over the past few days every video I see on youtube with a starting ad has this absolutely annoying Chanel ad. Is this just me or should we all storm Chanel HQ with torches? It is ridiculous.

Dunno what you're talking about as I see no ads at all. AdBlock Plus + FlashBlock and voila, control over embeded flash objects (including ads) is in the user's hands. That's assuming you're using a browser that supports such addons.

What ads?

Haven't seen an ad on the entire internet for years. Get adblock  :-+

OK, installed adblock pus, flashblock, and did a flash cookie clean. I try to not block ads for site like Dave's here as it helps pay his bills. I guess I would much rather not pay google's bills and not support Chanel.

Thanks for making get off my lazy virtual butt and do some cleanup.

you can also download a half megabyte long hosts file and it will take care of anything adblock can't reach.

^^ I use this hosts file on my Linux box http://someonewhocares.org/hosts/ as well as adblock edge. Works really well.

All I use is NoScript and Ghostery and I rarely see an ad. Once you have these installed, you'll see what an amazing amount of crap many web pages try to serve you. It's not unusual for there to be 20 or more scripts/trackers.

My NoScript whitelist is only about 25 entries, but I do frequently have to manually allow some scripts to run.  It does take a bit of experience before you get a good feel for what to allow in order to actually see the content you were looking for.
