Its just sensationalism. If you read the article, it mentions that threats made against the kids in school and parents' concern of a repeat tragedy (Connecticut) is what prompted the closings two days early for the holidays. It seems the 'end of the world' stuff is from students posting on Twitter and the like.

No, we have them a lot dumber....... There are whole schools where the pupils and teachers alike are convinced that there are Tokoloshe ( spirits/ghosts/demons) in certain places, and they all will run screaming at times. The way to protect yourself from the Tokoloshe is to lift the bed up on 4 bricks, this is apparently because they cannot climb one brick..........

Long time ago my grandparents told me that it wasn't uncommon in their youth to place the legs of a bed into pots filled with water. But that had a practical purpose, to prevent some vermin from climbing into the bed. It had the negative side effect that it ruined the metal or wooden legs when done directly. So they improved on that by placing half of a brick in each pot to keep the legs dry.

About that Mayan calendar... Didn't they have to stop somewhere? Shame on them for thinking a 5000+ year calendar might be good enough! If only they could imagine how utterly ungrateful people have become. If only we could find some of their descendants to sue for our worries!

Thing is that the Mayan counting/calendar doesn't really stop anyways. The calendar will simply go to the next Baktun. It's simply just another numbering system. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maya_calendar#Long_Count. They use(d) the long count system, while we use the day/month/year system. Both are arbitrary, and both are "good" for many centuries to come ;)

Of course, facts are something that the woosters are completely immune to.

Greetings,

Chris

If we didn't have guns what would dads break out and clean to intimidate their daughters boy friends? I've got a few more years before my girls are old enough but I'm already saving for a new Benelli. :)

Sharpening a large kitchen knives does the trick quite fine. And since Pulp Fiction a pair of pliers and a blow torch go a long way, too.

I prefer to have my daughter outside with me shooting targets when the boyfriend shows up. It really gets the message across if you have her shooting paper man targets with a nice shot pattern around the crotch !

I think what needs to be realized here is that Michigan is the home of many separatist gun loving loons. Ted Nugent is from Michigan. Tim McVeigh was from Michigan. It's not unreasonable to be wary of nuts on "end of the world day."
