lorex nvr speaker and mike hookup
« on: August 29, 2024, 12:06:20 pm »
I have a Lorex NVR N861 series. On the back are two RCA jacks . The top one is labeled out and the bottom is labeded in. In the manual it shows a picture of speakers plugged into the out jack and a microphone plugged into the in jack. I tried hooking up two different self powered computer speakers to the out jack and got very low audio through the speakers with the volume turned up all the way. What i am trying to do is hear the sounds picked up from a selected camera and also being able to talk through a camera outside with a microphone from my nvr desk position. what do i need to get this going.

what microphone are you using? does it require bias voltage? Also phono/rca connectors  normally mean line level(apart from turntables) and so you mayt need a preamp between the mic and input

The microphone is integrated in their security camera, but yeah it might not be very good. Powered computer speakers have a pre-amp already.

OP: check that the volume slider in the NVR software itself is maxed out, if you can find one.
Speaking through the camera won't work unless it has a speaker in it, obviously. So make sure it does.

Alternatively, can just buy an all in one option that supports two-way audio. Like reolink, ring, kasa, blink, etc.
