3D Printer Hot End power consumption ?
« on: January 24, 2013, 03:47:23 pm »
Hello,

Was wondering, do somebody measured the power consumption of a 3D Printer hot end ?
I know the heating bed can go up to 10A at 12V, but have no idea for the hot end (should be a lot less) ...

Thomas.

It depends on the type of hot end, the temp you are running it at(different temps for different materials)

I believe the heater is usually PWM'ed so - there's that too.  But for example, a J-head hot end uses a 5W resistor( 5.6 ohm, 1%, 5W ) as it's heating element - but I believe they overdriveing it at times, and that's one of the reasons the resistor fails.

Not sure if that helps.

Why are you asking?  What are you trying to figure out?
