With the predictable annoying crap like "yeah, because you can just stick in a microcontroller these days, amirite?" or "herp derp what's a termination"

Cool.  Jazzed for the Hill followup. :)

(FYI, Win occasionally posts on sci.electronics.design, and yes, the ancient tradition of Usenet is *still* around, slowly but surely.)

Totally agree, my comment before reading yours was that she sure likes the sound of her own voice. That would drive me potty!

On several occasions she also showed a slightly surprising lack of knowledge, definitely she was saying stuff without thinking first.

However, in all it was a good watch. I particularly like the semi-jibes at EE courses that jump head first into theory with almost no practical, that was pretty much how my EE degree course went 30 odd years ago. As I've mentioned before on this forum, you could easily go through my entire course without touching an oscilloscope or using a soldering iron. In fact looking back on it, I don't think I ever used a scope on my EE degree once. They had them, but they weren't for undergrads. Luckily I'd already figured out how to use one at school at about 13 or 14 yo with the other nerdy kids!

I kept wanting to tell her to shut up so I could listen to what he was trying to say. He clearly had a lot of interesting things to say and would have much preferred to hear it without her talking over him.

I don't think he left anything unsaid he made sure everything was covered to his satisfaction.

Maybe a little annoying but I didn't mind her interjections much, I think she was trying to prove herself as an equal by trying to finish his sentences but he didn't mind anyways.

@EEVblog

Dave, could you please interview him? You could use some of these modern videoconferencing systems, despite they may be sucky at times. Or you could use it for live interview and use high quality recording for the final video, whatever you may like :)

You don't need to replace your knowledge by showing your first editions of AoE, but it can be nice to talk about how they evolved.

I have one question: What about translating AoE 3E to Spanish?

PS: I have severe problems understanding them. I find Dave's australian English easier to understand :P

I agree although I think I found her interjections rather more irritating then you did. As far as her trying to prove herself as an equal, well, I think we can all draw our own conclusions to that. Sometimes it's just time to listen and STFU. It's a shame because I have a lot of time for go getters and enablers, but as an interviewer I'm afraid she didn't work for me at all.

Pink hair, cool place, collecting AoE editions, interrupting him in the interview all time...

Is it a way to hide their lack of background? Does she want so much attention?

She is "The" founder of Adafruit FWIW, I don't think she needs a lot of attention grabbing :)

Are you sure? Adafruit is made for the purpose of attention grabbing to her (and profit, of course) ;)

Video conferencing really does suck  :--
We want to get him on the Amp Hour.
Both he and Win are fans of the EEVblog, so I can get their ear.
Personally I'd be asking a lot about his SETI research.
Would love to interview them in person, but that's not going to happen  :(

I get that comment a lot from a big mix of non-native english speakers, somehow they find my accent easier to understand than Yanks or Poms :-//

Is a store that sprung from her DIY kit that even she didn't want to assemble but her fans pushed so much that she gave in and started to assemble kits for sale, hired people to help her out and from that Adafruit was born, so she is a huge part of the so called "Maker" movement birth 10 years ago.

Maybe not higher praise to you but looks impressive to me.

To be fair, while she does make my eyes roll like nothing else, nothing but the interruptions in all of that is anything worth judging people on.

This. Lest I get carried away bitching about Fried, Horowitz was wonderful. He seems like he'd be fun to spend some time around. I have high hopes for the following Hill interview. :-+

So what about the 3rd edition? Is it worth buying? I noticed on Amazon.com that there is no preview so not even a table of content to look at.

Edit: Found the TOC here: https://blog.adafruit.com/2015/03/02/new-site-the-art-of-electronics-3rd-edition-by-horowitz-and-hill/
