Just Bought a new "toy".
« on: September 30, 2011, 12:41:04 pm »
I Just bought a Hameg HM-605 60 MHz Cathode Ray analog oscilloscope.

This model is special for me. My first contact with oscilloscopes was this model. I am hopping it to arrive really fast!

Good luck and please keep us posted. I like topics on scopes. I just took delivery of a Tek 2225. Used Dave's Tek2225 checkout video for checking out my scope. All works fine.

I used to lust after the Philips PM series scopes with the LCD display that was advertised in the electronics mags when I was a kid, never did get one :-(

This http://www.thevalvepage.com/testeq/solatron/cd1212/cd1212.htm was the first scope I owned. I don't remember it feeling special when I had it, sure doesn't look special now.

Ah, a bit of nostalgia there! You will love this scope and the feedback on the old hameg knobs. I have the HM604, which appears to be very similar. I had taken some pictures of the internal '100% Hameg' construction a while ago on this forum. Here are a couple of pictures:

---

I had the HM408 but had to let it go as I was moving houses too frequently. A thing of beauty for sure. It broke on transit and the buyer put it on ebay for spares   :-\

Here is a picture from the my ex-HM408 showing a proper eye diagram! ;D

Enjoy the new toy!

Well I could live and with the 40MHz version , but with nothing less.  :)

The usual Ebay price in Germany are about 130 - 170 EUR,
and the latest HAMEG 40MHz at about 650-700 EUR.

Both dreams have to be on hold for now.  :(

Stupid international delivery services. They routed the packet back to the sender.

I could see it via the tracking number that the route was far from right and notified them. The assured me that the packet is going the correct way and will be delivered to me. Today it was delivered back to the sender.  :P :P :P

This is what happened.

Someone gave the packet to a delivery service for local palaces in UK. They was searching a place called Greece in the UK...

They solved the Issue, and loaded the packet to an airplane, as we speak it is in Germany (I hope that this is the correct route).

This is why I always want packets with tracking number...

My "toy" arrived today. It has only a slight issue. Some time the screen goes off (the heating element of the CRT is on). If I nudge it a bit it turns on again. So I am guessing a lose wire or something. I have to further investigate it.

After a quick optical check, I found the problem...

Hmm  I was never think that Hameg products would have issues from cold solder joins..

Interesting find.

I don;t think it is a cold solder joint. It seemed more like a clean cut due to vibrations.
