Except for the U1701A, all of the U17XX series handheld LCR
meters are showing up as discontinued on Agilent's web site,
including my several months old U1732B.

No sign of any replacements, I wonder what's up?

Maybe Grainger is going to have a blowout on these next! :-)

Both U1701A and U1701B seem to stay. But isn't the U1701A/B actually more of a "C meter" instead of a "LCR meter"? At least they toute it as 'Handheld Capacitance Meter' only. :P

What's also interesting that they bother to keep both A and B models up: the specifications for both are 100% identical while for the DMM models they at least had minor differences. Same identicality goes also for the discontinued U173*A/B models. ???

Interesting.  The handheld line of Agilent has much higher turn over than Fluke, so something to watch in the new products arena and deals if they exist.

I guess I shouldn't bother to review my U1732B any more?

I was about to pick one, but finally the ESR capacity of the BKPrecision meter won.

Bryan, an Agilent business development manager and engineer posted at element14.com that a new LCR series is set to launch June 14, 2011.

Looks like the cats out of the bag.
Yes, they have a new updated LCR meter coming, and they are trying to get me one before it's released.
I told them about the discontinuation notice and it turns out someone was a bit premature on the website announcement, they have since removed the notice.
I don't know the reason for discontinuing the B version meter not long after it was released. Most likely because they have a completely new design available. They seen to be moving away from the original Escort designs entirely for various products.

Dave.
