My latest Oldest Radio!!. Crosley Model-51
« on: April 02, 2020, 11:57:13 am »
My father had a Crosley model 51 & 52 many years ago. (The '52' had one extra Valve Audio stage). Unfortunately, they were 'Disposed of', (stolen!) after I moved from my original house... Sigh. I've always wanted to find another, (quite rare here!), and do it up to like brand new condition & have it fully working, in honor of/for my father. Have now just bought one!! Here's a view inside the top......

It is a 'Regenerative Receiver', with feedback to a mechanically adjustable coil, (seen in the photo), in front of the main coil. It has quite a simplistic (though typical of the day), Grid-Leak resistor, typically around 2-Meg, mounted on top of the filtering Capacitor, connected to the Grid.
P.S.  I always LOVED the old style 'Book-Capacitor' underneath the GridLeak/RF-block Capacitor!!

I was 'tickled' though, (and originally confused!), when reading online about a "Grid-Leak-Drip-Pan" that one company made years ago, which hung under the 'Grid-Leak' Resistor!!! (to catch the 'leakage'). It's a NOVELTY just for fun, but I WANT ONE !!   8)

What are the two tube part numbers?

They are both 4-pin  UV 201A  Triode tubes.  According to the detailed manual which I have with schematics, there are other tube variants that can be used, depending on the type of batteries, (A, B, C), and their configurations. I'll be making my own multi power supply unit!!
