Hat Radio

Before the iPod, before the Walkman, before even transistor radio... There was this.

1931 hat radio. I wish I could borrow Dave's DeLorean, go back in time, and simultaneously slap and shake the hand of the engineer that made this contraption.

Looks like something out of a Monty Python cartoon.
The larger the government, the smaller the citizen.

I much prefer the 1949 effort:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radio_Hat

The 1931 version (illustrated at http://www.britishpathe.com/video/radio-hat-aka-radlo-hat/query/hats )  would not have been usable due to the small size of the antenna, absence of headphones and it (likely) being a crystal set without amplification.  The noisy street wouldn't help either.
