"Pre-bunking is basically the opposite of debunking."

Debunking: the act of showing something to be false; to discredit, or expose to ridicule the falsehood or the exaggerated claims of something.

Ergo, "pre-bunking" ≝ "ensuring false information prevails" ≡ state-enforced propaganda.

I don't care who the politician is, even if it was myself as the Emperor of Earth: never trust a politician wanting to control information and public discourse.

I suspect this thread will be locked due to politics. However never trust politician when they say what the new law is intended for. Trust only what the law actually says. Even if it is actually good intended, it does not really matter. If it can be used to legally justify nefarious purposes, there will be people to exploit it.

there will be people to exploit it.

That applies to basically everything. As long as there are people there will be exploits.

The premise of this pre-bunking is somewhat incorrect.

In the video she states that it is just like vaccination on forehand so that you don't get sick from a virus and that is better than curing you afterwards. True of course, but for this to work you have to know about the virus on forehand.

So for the pre-bunking of miss information to work you have to first get the miss information and then delete it before it spreads, but when do you get hold of the miss information and who says it is miss information.

Only politicians can come up with this kind of beat about the bush nonsense.  :palm:

The best method of "pre-bunking" would be to properly educate children in the skill of critical thinking.

Yes. It's a bad analogy.

Who decides what's misinformation and what isn't?

And what about the authorities who spread misinformation in the form of propaganda? It's hardly a new thing.

Unfortunately it's difficult to know what and who to believe.

Unfortunately laws are open to interpretation and rely on a fair and impartial judiciary.

Who decides what's misinformation and what isn't? Big Brother, of course!

And they could have a "pre-bunking news segment" ... Maybe it could be called "the two minutes of hate".

Let's reword that as "The best method of reducing susceptibility to bunk would be to properly educate children in the skill of critical thinking", though.

And that "bunk" includes both conspiracy theories and government and anti-government propaganda.

Unfortunately, at least in this part of the world, "critical thinking", "rational thinking", "logic" and "meritocracy" are considered Bad Words and Horrible Ideas in education, all the way from kindergarten to universities; with Conformity and Appearance the highest goals one can reach for.

And nowadays they tell you that you don't have to remember anything because you can look it up on the internet. The only thing they leave out is that the internet is full of nonsense and you need the ability to indeed do some "critical thinking". Also rather important is the ability to understand or comprehend if you like.

In a lot of science you can have all the formulas you like, but they are useless when you don't know how to use them or understand the results they produce.

Funny, I was just thinking, how and when did the current decade of pre-positioned BLOCKS, to uncorrupted discourse became visible.

Surely by the time the US covid-election, err, US election-vid needed some supplemental cheats.
Fauchi claiming 'I AM Science', should qualify as valid to avoid the Dave' action (poor Dave, we are like a bunch of kids).

If one side saying 'science, Science' then turnaround is fair play.

But I'm thinking, I think, at least in U.S. the whole pre-applied smear tacktics started showing up...(Gas Lighting, similar). 2016
Now, the incompetent ones use mis-spoken terms like;   'Mis-disinformation',
and 'January 16 insurrection'.   (wrong date).

I think it was some communist handbook that put forth the idea of 'owning' the language,  for best manipulation effectiveness.

There's an old-school info manipulation method, that relates to this, somewhat, and that is the 'Flawed Summary',  (my own terminology).   That is, the speaker takes a past item or situation, distorts portions, then packages the flawed 'review', along with generally good data.
Such as:

'He has already been accused of car theft, 15 times, and got away with it, somehow.'

Funny, I was just thinking, how and when did the current decade of pre-positioned BLOCKS, to uncorrupted discourse became visible.
It tends to ebb and flow, in cycles.

With regards to politics, as discussed in other threads, I think we should be able to support anyone, even a politician, when they do right, and denounce and oppose them when they do wrong, instead of supporting or opposing the person.

With regards to speech, many forget that jesters in old courts were not only for entertainment: they also had the privilege/duty of speaking truth to the rulers.
Variants of this exist even today; for example the Loud American position in some Japanese companies.
As societies, we discard such roles at our own peril.

However there may be very obvious loopholes or law does not match the title. It's quite common when there is a public outcry about a new law politicians start explaining (gaslighting) that you dumb people understand it wrong and it will never be used for "something" because it's intended for something else.

Build a critical thinking is a life long work, and they are aware of that.

Then there is the Anti-Thread, will explain:
The Anti-Thread, for this thread, would be the opposite,  where the dynamic is one of pridefully defiant revelation, in the face of accusations;  (such as),

Yes, I stole those 15 trucks.   Whatcha gonna DO about it, (punk)!

Often done in non-verbal, defiant posture.
Or, when a squirrel points ASS straight into surveillance camera, up close (Smarter Every Day video).
