« on: February 27, 2011, 11:04:18 pm »
hello,

i found a tek scope in a great price but it doen't have AC coupling only GROUND and DC . how important is AC coupling for everyday use?

thanks

That's very unusual for a standard scope - my guess is it is a 50 ohm input, which is useless for general-purpose use as it will only work with expensive active probes.

As mikeselectricstuff said, it is unusual for the feature to be missing.

For everyday use, it would depend on what you use the scope for. I tend to use it a lot, for seeing small AC ripple on top of a large DC voltage. You can AC-couple the signal to get rid of the DC offset and then crank up the scale to see the AC component easily.

I am sure it's a great scope, but the question you should be asking is how to add AC coupling.  :D

What is the input impedance and capacitance of your current scope?

By the way, which scope is it?
