How not to draw a schematic
« on: July 02, 2015, 06:29:49 pm »
These two are the same circuit:

Whoever drew the one on the left is a massive tit.

Anyone else got some good examples?

  • There's more value if you figure it out yourself!

Or if I were drawing it (minus the red bits), it would look like this to help identify the flow of the circuit.
There are more dramatic changes that would improve it more, but with the existing symbols - this'll do!
Don't ask a question if you aren't willing to listen to the answer.

ok - I was bored...  modified_2 shows a bit clearer
In this type of circuit - less wires crossing is better!

Is the first schematic supposed to show the physical layout of a system too? The others all show at least one "L" (whatever that is) the opposite way round.

Arguably a wiring diagram that shows things in their true physical orientation is more useful than a schematic that just shows connectivity, even if there is still some room to reduce wire crossings.

I took that liberty - as the (lamp) connections were not indicated as polarised or wire-specific.
If there is a physical relationship - that could be mentioned - and an alternative schematic developed.

I just started a thread on bad schematics without seeing this one.  :palm:

Actually the xkcd circuit diagram is pretty good really.
