How does this forum get so many views per topic?

I have been on a lot of forums and this one seems to get ALOT more views per post. Something like 10:1. Why is that? I know  technical forums get higher ratios because each topic is often a hard question to answer and not a "put in your 0.02". But its still much higher then other electronic forums.

The views this place get amaze me.

Yep, that number is close as per day "on average", the new topics created is 55, while new posts about 800, and the forum page views, again, per day is reaching 400.000 views. 

We've been watching it grows for years since 2010, just fyi, latest forum statistic in charts -> Forum charts at 4th April 2017

More lurkers than the average site, perhaps? For example, I read the forum nearly every day, yet rarely feel the need to post.

Not sure if the forum counts bot reads.
If so, given it's a very active forum in its category it could be indexed more often.

If you look at near the top is says there are 9 viewing this topic, or at least have in the last 15 minutes. That 2 are a guest kind of suggests they are the crawlers for the chocolate factory and the Bing lady.

Not necessarily.   I was following the forum way before I became a member, so I was just a guest.   Are you a member of all the forums you browse?

Does this forum software count views by unregistered guests? This forum is relatively unique in that it is "promoted" from a rather popular YouTube channel. I cannot imagine that fact is unrelated.

I am but I tend to ask a lot of questions.

Would site crawlers count as views per topic? Which ones do that? I'm curious because I am trying to get a company's page rank up on google; a brick and motor location in America.

People, and bots.  Probably lot of people finding stuff on Google, lurking etc.  Web crawler bots would count too.

I have a forum that is quite dead but topics have thousands of views and older the topic the more views it will have even if there's lot a lot of posts.

What is interesting is when you use potential porn related keywords in titles, those topics always have way more views.

With 35,000 members, only a small percentage need look to get a lot of views!

It was similar on a Mac forum I used to administer. We peaked at around 65K members, and there too most topics got answered.

I would assume it counts viewers per unique IP, not only users? I see eevblog forum posts appear quite frequently in google search results, people clicking on those?

Please excuse the ignorance - I get the reference to the Bing lady but not The Chocolate Factory -I assume its a Roald Dahl reference but I'm failing to make the link.

What is more amazing than the number of views is the quality of the replies and the knowledge of the contributors.  Some of the folks around here (not me) really know the material.

The even more staggering data point is the number of countries represented.  I would really like to see one of the moderators make a run through the database and list the countries.

I would assume that the really large view counts, like this one, come directly via Google. The 555 thread comes up on the first results page for me when Googling "555 pwm signal", and the attachment comes up pretty high in the corresponding image search result. And Google got it right; it's a very relevant post!

Forum have topics that never die, and are years long , this helps on the counting

I know there are electronics / ham radio / RF / ... forums out there that are specialized, but this one seems to have it all. I know there are groups here that tend to do certain areas - like for me I'm into test equipment specifically older/vintage stuff and restoring same and there are a good group here that do the same and know a lot of good restoration tips.

I think one reason for all the views is, because it's got it all, people tend to notice a lot of topics that they wouldn't if they stayed at a more specialized forum. It's like going to You Tube to find a repair video for your lawn mower and stumbling upon a cool old video of Deep Purple doing Highway Star. You get sucked into other areas and it's cool because there are a lot of people here who really know their shit. Stuff you'd never think of in all areas.

But that's from 2010! and you link back to it in future posts so every time the new thread is viewed it counts as a view/download on the original attachment.

Your diagrams are always worth a look.

There are ways to increase the number of views of a thread here, I do it every now and again.

Yep and some credit must go to Dave for the addition of some more quite plain and more specialized boards that weren't here a couple of years ago. Before that there was heaps of great info but scattered all around and difficult to find. Immensely better now.
