When purchased via the oldschool distributors (not Farnell and the like), Telit isn't that much more expensive than Simcom.
In addition, Telit offers a lot more features such as scripting (Python iirc), OTA and modules with same formfactor across 2G, 3G, 4G and LTE.
If you only need simple GPRS/PPP or texting, then it doesn't matter much which to use. (I have used both.)
