Is there anywhere I can promote my channel on the EEV blob forum without being shot down?

I'd recommend avoiding YouTube. They are going downhill, adopting censorship and being idiotic.

There may be other video hosting sites that are less hostile towards knowledge.

Yes, may be. But just like you, nobody knows about them. What's the point?

I have been using Youtube for some time. What is the problem I should look for?

That is very bad advice IMO.
Youtube is still the only game in town, by many orders of magnitude.

For a beginning Youtuber, likely nothing at all.
It's a complex range of issues from automatic demonetisation bots to left wing vs right wing politics and censorship of "free speech".
There are a few high profiles cases of issues and some channels being incorrectly shut down, meanwhile hundreds of thousands of other channels have no major issue at all.
Just go make your content and upload.

Don't get caught up in producing videos to satisfy a timetable or any other production metrics.

Let your interests drive your videos and enjoy what you do.  If you don't, then your efforts will become a chore and your videos will show it.
