Jordan Pier on elitist attitudes for younger players
« on: August 06, 2020, 12:28:49 am »
I just saw one of Piers Morgans videos "Teal Admiral Vintage Color Roundie TV Analysis" and he said something interesting.

01:07 There's sort of two groups that are interested in collecting and restoring vintage televisions, there's the boomers which have the annual vintage television meetup and there are the younger people that kind, of watch my videos and look at social media and they're interested in learning about vintage electronics and getting into it but,

a lot of the time the boomers tend to have this elitist attitude, and they don't really support or encourage the younger kids to get into it by younger kid.

I mean Gen Z, and that's really kind of sad because as the boomers die off what's really going to happen is the Roloffs dumpsters are going to come in and the legacy is going to go in the trash because they didn't take the time to, invest in, teaching the younger generation how this stuff works and I really support and encourage the the younger kids to get into this and you know what if you get something like this and it ends up being sacrificed to your learning then so be it that's how we all learned.

I believe I have experienced things like this before in colleagues and friends not wanting to teach younger generation things they have learned in their time.

I spoke some director 10 years ago at a college

We don't do electrical engineering like this anymore, I use to run clases teaching how to fix televisions an all sorts but now there is just no need when you can simply go out buy one cheaply and any electric courses we do are limited as there is not enough demand for it.
I don't think it was an elitist attitude but I was interested in learning things that I am finding now on Youtube.

What to do you think?

Edit: How emabarassing I spelt the name wrong.

I have no idea how I spelt that wrongly, anyway I have noticed it after adding a few things and changed it but it is still in the title, I can't delete this tread. and I am going to ask if I can remove this thread.

How do you envision a logistics for such training/learning? Is a place for the lab needs to be rented? Who will pay for rent? Who will equip the lab? Who will pay for parts and materials? Those graybeard restoration experts are often lonely wolfs who do not possesses much social skills. Anyways, it is all just wishful thinking. If a kid is interested he will find a way to learn.

It works the other way as well.  Often, the younger people have less than zero interest in anything that old people find interesting.  Just the way it goes sometimes.
