Very pleasing on the eye.  ;)

Maybe it's just me, but I think the top one would go great with a tube project that's meant to show them off.

There should be a review criterion of "beauty" when reviewing electronics. Cherry wood and soft glowing filaments look much better in the living room than LEDs and fluorescent displays.

Where I live, you wouldn't want to pay the electric bill for cooling the house with all the heat radiated by those tubes!

Ah but is it sustainable, non rainforest timber, treated for woodworm with safe non chemical organic insecticides? At least we can be happy that less vinyl chlorides were harmed in the production of these enclosures.  ;)  And yes they look good too.

Puts paid your argument that where you live, graduates engineers are paid so much more, that any mere electric bill would be an insignificance!  ;)

You can tell they are American. European countries (away from the Mediterranean at any rate) tend to prefer lighter woods. Darker woods look rather 1970s. Then again that is probably the look they are after!

Nice dark wood. Shows up better in the great white north.

Too much tat and bling added.

I think he did good considering it was a $13.80 mp3 player that didn't even come with a box.

I had never realized how captivated I can get by looking at a thread about wood. I love getting older.
