I need an Prist for my DMM !! evil spirit took it over
« on: July 06, 2010, 11:59:36 pm »
Some times turns that the people who had the passion to stay Loyal in brand names ,
they have accidents ..  ;D

I was making some measurements , to check the calibration of my meters,
and my portable Pros Kit ... was a bit off in 0-200 Oms ,
so I opened it up to check if it has any calibration pots ..
The past 20 years , all that I was care , was to open it, so to just replace the battery,
never ever  had pay attention at any internal detail of it .

And now I got shocked ...   ;D

You don't like Mastech, 'Master-tech'?  They are a fairly large ODM.

Since you've had it for 20 years you've proven its a good brand for your use. That close up looks like hand soldering.

Mastech are a cheap and nasty Chinese brand. I didn't even know they were more than 20 years old.

A cheap and cheerful meter like the picture of the one you've posted can be bought for around £5, about $7.60 (US) and almost certainly isn't worth repairing, let alone calibrating.

I'm not so sure they are that very poorly made, given K's meter is still working 17 years later.  Their website claims they sell 2,500,000 devices a year, i don't know what year or if that's still current.  But that they've been around and continue to be around means they are doing something right.

They also make power supplies, and I think they are fairly decent.  I wrote a review elsewhere.  The linear supply is typical 1980s technology, and can be easily built by a good hobbyist.  But its far cheaper to buy it than shop for the parts and assemble it myself.  I'll be updating the review when I've time to run tests.  Since the PSU is a cruder device than a DMM, I think its better made than many of their DMMs.

That thread suggests Mastech maybe an ODM for other brands such as low end GWInstek PSU, but no confirmation.
