Which LED HD projector?
« on: November 21, 2011, 12:17:35 pm »
Since Christmas is soon its time to buy a present for myself. I always wanted to buy a projector for watching movies in the lab and various other uses (especially now after my tv was crushed in last overhaul).

On eBay choice goes from 200 $ with resolution 640X480 and 1300 lumens (peak) and 600:1 contrast for 100 inch screen up to 500 $ for 1024*768, 2000 lumens, 1000:1 contrast for up to 200 inch screen. None of them uses a "real" HD resolution.

What worries me that all of them are NoName Chinese products and specs could be pretty false.

And reccomendation is welcome?

Do you actually want it to be LED based or did you mean to say LCD?

Personally i wouldnt considering anything less than 1024x768

No i really meant LED based. The replacement lightbulbs are too expensive for my taste, and on average original bulbs cost 200 $ and up as replacement for 500 $ projector, since im going to use it quite alot i really want to go LED route.

Im considering Acer K330, its easily available locally, has 2 year warranty and specs seem quite good. Altrough its only 500 lumens of brightness it will be enough since i can easily darken room.

Casio has some interesting non-bulb projectors.

Personally, I'm waiting for them to come out with a 1080p version before I give up my Epson 6500UB - even though it demands a new bulb every 4000 hours or so, or it explodes.  :o

I have been searching for an LED Projector and found this for £399.

Technical Specifications:
Resolution: 1280 x 800 native, Full HD 1080p compatible
Brightness: 2,600 Lumens
Contrast Ratio: 3500:1
Aspect Ratio: 4:3 or 16:9 (note: older version projectors do not have 16:9)
Picture Size: 30" - 450"
Zooming: Digital and Manual
Fan Noise: Standard (average 20db to 30db)

A company called Abis based in the UK, it also mentions a 2 year warranty.

Anybody heard of these people?

Seems rather cheap inexpensive for such a "great" projector. But the proof is in the pudding, as they say. Someone should get one and...DO A TEARDOWN! ;D

(I'm still going to wait for a native 1080p version.)

Watch the marketing BS. That projector is not full HD which is 1920x1080. It's just 1080 compatible which means any HD content will be scaled down to 1280x800.
