Rant about Samsung Smart Manager Provider
« on: March 02, 2016, 02:28:43 pm »
I know this is not a smartphone or PC forum, but I just have to do a rant about this app. I'm probably not the only one who has this problem.
First, it installed itself automatically and has access to almost every permission, it could possibly get. Samsung claims, it would be an app which optimizes the performance of your phone... By the way Samsung: IF I want to optimize the performance, I can install an app for that ON MY OWN or use the onboard tools for that!
The second thing that annoys me is, that it keeps showing me notifications about how I could optimize my battery usage, and that for example Spotify uses a lot of battery while it is running. THANK YOU, I didn't know. It's about 2 notifications per day!
When I tried to uninstall or deactivate it today, I found out that that is simply not possible. I can even deactivate the google apps, but for this I cannot even turn the notifications off :-- :-- and it restarts automatically after I have forced it to stop. Not that I didn't expect that, but still...

Has anyone an idea how to get rid of this thing without rooting the phone (or breaking it)?

Samsungs are known to be loaded with crap ware you can't get rid off - so why buy it at all? And every time you get updates - they want permission for more and more and more intrusions into what is on your phone.

If I wanted an Android phone - my choice would be the one with least crap on it from the factory. So usually a Nexus if it had to be Android.

So, it's not possible to basically wipe android completely and do an install of the pure distro?

If you are unhappy with your samsung bloatware you should root your phone and uninstall that stuff. Pretty much most popular samsung phones have root tutorials on the net.

Yea, I'm thinking about it, but there still is the risk and I had no problem with it so far...
