Beam theory question
« on: May 29, 2015, 07:46:24 pm »
Hello,
Not electronics, but hey, it's physics, close enough :)
My material science professor is Dutch, and while translating his course work, everything became "Bending moment" on a few critical pages...
Here are the offending diagrams, I've filled in what I've already determined, but I'm guessing :

Image 1:

- P= Weight distribution.
- Q= Shear moment.
- M= Bending moment.

Image 2:

- Total moment?
- V= No idea
- M= No idea

Thanks for any help!

Here's what I'd put down:

Image 1:
P = distributed load (force per unit length)
M = Bending moment (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bending_moment)
V = Shear force

Image 2:
M0 = Applied moment.
V = Shear force
M = Bending moment
