Enclosed soldering iron holder?
« on: November 03, 2016, 06:49:08 am »
I noticed that some soldering iron holders/stands have the hot end enclosed when it's on the stand.

I assume it's to reduce the time the heater is on, extending the life of the heating element?  Or maybe reduce power?

Id there any advantage to doing something like that on something like a Weller wesd51?

They later stands for metcal and copies have magnets, which put the tip into a "sleep" mode [reduced temperature] to extend tip life
