Linux GPIB driver for NI GPIB-ENET/100
« on: June 29, 2022, 10:11:16 pm »
Hey All,

I have a NI ENET-GPIB/100 (basically a GPIB LAN gateway that I think is VXI based but don't quote me) - This device was dropped from support in the NI 488.2 v18+ driver package so I've kept my own copy of the v17.6 Windows driver around.

Now I would like to install it on a Linux VM but I can't seem to find this anywhere and, as I mentioned above, NI itself has stop providing it.

As a Linux noob, does anyone know if there is a Linux driver that supports this? From looking at the various READMEs, the public driver packages all seem to only support expansion cards (PCI/PCIe/etc) or USB-based adapters.

If anyone can point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,

TonyG

Hello all,

#I reply to this older post, as I have this GPIB Ethernet adapter as well. I used it on an old mac book air together eit te community edition of labview and it worked fine.

I'm struggeling with Labview asi ist is a kind of closed development solution, and you must renew the licence on a regular base so i decided to go  withgo with Python, but i did not find any useful information how to direct  access the GPIB-ENET/100 without the NI visa drivers. This would be very interesting, as I just switched to a new laptop with m3 arm inside.

I found an older post: GPIB-ENET still usable?, that handles the older GPIB-ENET adapter, but the linked sources tell that it is not working with the newer devices like GPIB-ENET/100.

Is there anywhere a description how to access the GPIB-ENET/100 directly without NI drivers or is the oly way to insall th NI drivers and use the VISA interface? Has anybody done some reverse engeneering or looked at the communication between PC an the GPIB-ENET/100 adaper?
