Q: Thomas & Betts dies for 779-2100 crimper
« on: Yesterday at 12:44:05 am »
Hi.

I recently picked up a T&B 779-2100 crimper.     It's very nice quality,  way nicer than the cheap Chinese IDC cable crimpers.   It came with a 779-2150 die.   See attached image where the die is labelled "wrap post conn"

I found an old full T&B catalog on Bitsavers (yay for that site).    It lists the dies on page 131B but they start with 779-2151 which is for "All 622 Female Transition Connectors" (page 44B; basically a "2 row female IDC connector") and no mention of 779-2150.

I found a more updated die datasheet at Farnell which says 779-2150 (the die I have) is for "All female socket transition" and 779-2151 is "Multi spec. female socket".

The image below shows the  779-2150 is an L shaped die (rather than U shaped) but it does seem to correctly crimp the female 2 row IDC connectors I have.  So I have no idea what the "Multi spec. female socket" is?  Anyone know?

I also need to crimp 4-row pcb mount transition connectors.   The die for this is - I believe - 779-2152 "609 solder transition conn".   I can't find anything more about this die online.  I have a general idea of what is required but does anyone own this die and if so would you be willing to take a couple pictures and maybe some basic caliper measurements.   I have a CNC mill so it's not hard to make something and for non production use it's possible it could even be 3d printed.

Thanks
