Something shocked me.
« on: July 04, 2017, 05:22:39 am »
I bought a metcal used and for a month up until today it has been fine up until today. Today i go to change the tip and get shocked by what felt like mains, i reach for the unit an am shocked again, with much less power. I get my multi-meter and test it a second later and nothing. The outlet has been tested, the resistance from tip to power prongs has been tested and i am left thinking. What the hell?! :bullshit:  :-BROKE?

EDIT: ignore everything above. I traced the problem to a power supply that when plugged in pulls every metal object on my workbench high, So now the better question would be, how is that even possible? There can't be a short as it is sitting on plastic.

Wonder how good your earthing is.  Perhaps find your ground rods and verify the connections.

It seems to have been a very odd failure mode of the 317 in it.
