Digikey sort by prce at qty disappeared?
« on: May 12, 2013, 10:32:29 pm »
Digikey seem to have rearranged their search results recently, and their very useful and unique feature to sort by price at a particular quantity seems to have disappeared - anyone else (not) seeing this?

You can enter the quantity below the filters but above the results.

Now if only we could choose the order of the columns...

Good to see they are working on it, you can now reset individual filters.

It's nice that the filter section doesn't disappear when you get down to one page of results too.

Hopefully they have done some workflow improvements on the Bom uploader, I find it a bit difficult sometimes.

I like how they have moved the price column from its original right hand position to more centered in the table.
No more scrolling to see price on products with lots of parameters.

Also i see you can hover over a component picture and the large picture appears. That's excellent.
I've always liked that feature on other websites.

Unless its just  been added since you posted this, Mike, I can see the qty at the top right.  I entered 100 and it's priced at qty 100 now.

Yes, I like that they moved the price column closer to the start.

Yes, I like that they moved the price column closer to the start.

That' a MASSIVE improvement!
Been waiting for that for years.
I like the QTY box above, works well, and just like the existing method. So no functionality lost there Mike.

Probably is better that way - just didn't notice it!
A way to delete or at least resize columns would  be good though.
The other thing that's still annoying is a seperate line for each packaging option.

Just specify tr nd1 or nd2 in your search parameter.

 0805 1% resistor tr

Will get you only tape and reel
Nd or nd1 will get you loose parts . Nd2 is digireel

Not that anyone would care or use it, but I've had the columns moved over in my userscript for well over a year now.

A way to delete or at least resize columns would  be good though.

The delete portion is hacked into the userscript as well...

Does the script need to changed to match the site changes?
Greasemonkey is great for what I use it for, only to get rid of the google redirects.
I will give it a try at digikey.

I've fixed most of issues introduced by the changes.  There are still a few outstanding issues, but feel free to let me know if you find anything odd.

I also apologize that it only works on the digikey.com (US) site for the time being.  There are a few differences with international sites that I haven't yet rectified.

I did get around to internationalizing the advancedsearch Digi-Key userscript if anyone cares to take a look.

I'd certainly appreciate some input and testing help from any interested people.

It looks really good and useful but I have a bug in it.
The error happened when trying to sort columns. Using Firefox latest, windows 7 64bit.

pointing at the first F "not well formed", it looks well formed but maybe missing inverted commas or the enclosing tag.

Now it works, initially I did not filter by package, initially it didn't sort on any column, after I filtered by package it worked on all columns.

Can I switch the scripts on/off would be really good. Just in case something is a bit strange.
I like the picture previewing it could be really useful sometimes.
More space for parts which is great.

Great work, I recommend the concept thoroughly and with a bit more testing and assuming you can keep it up to date I recommend it to anyone.

As far as the BOM upload goes, I tried it again with good results. This time I use text file import, which was a cut and paste. Which is what I wanted.
Maybe just call the link paste in text, instead of import text file because that implies a file upload.

Lines that didn't parse successfully  are included with a best guess. Excellent.
The same part on two lines is highlighted red. Excellent.

I can use that.

One other issue I had was my BOM got deleted quicker than I expected.

Also would be good if you could upload BOM.  Download it, modify it and then Upload it again without having to set up the columns again.
So however it is downloaded is the default when it is uploaded. I think the column headings get in the way.
It really should be able to look for its own column headings.
This way I could keep my own record of my adjustments.

I updated the sorting mechanism, it hopefully is fixed.

Could you maybe clarify this statement?  I'm guessing a couple words got switched around, but I don't want to assume.

I mean just have a button that lets everything go back and forth between normal view(+ 1 button) and your scripted/restyled page.

So if I am having a problem with the scripted view or something seems amiss, I can toggle back to normal view. The normal view would need one extra button or link to go to the scripted/restyled view.

With the way the script is written, it isn't really possible to do a live toggle, but clicking the GreaseMonkey icon (to disable it) and hitting refresh will get you there.

I could also include a toggling button in the script to refresh the page and disable most of the script on the reload if that was an acceptable solution.

One feature I would love to see on digikey is something that the parametric search on newegg has. Being able to see what parameters have been selected, and be able click an 'X' to remove a parameter. Perhaps just above the boxes to make a selection you would see something like:

Constrained Parameters:
Bandwidth [X]
Number of Pins [X]
Furlongs Per Fortnight [X]
...

Often I will overconstrain things initially (oh wow there are three out of stock parts that cost $1000000 each that meet my ideal parameters...) and play a game of going back to find the right set of parameters, and the only way to know what is constrained on the particular page is to notice which boxes are NOT there.

The greasemonkey toggle is good enough. It is more of a "just in case" scenario.

That is something I too have wanted, but currently I just go back one page.

Another thing that is useful that is in your script is the breadcrumbs are all links, for some reason Digikey kills the link in the last breadcrumb. It is an easy way to reset your search.

Great work bombledmonk.

I tried and failed at doing that in a userscript in the past, but I've got a few more tricks up my sleeve now.  I've got a couple ideas in mind.  Might see it show up in the future, but can't promise anything.

Well I haven't failed this time.....  I have a working prototype of individual parametric removal.

I also increased the speed of the script.  It's run time is about 10% of what it was.

I've tried searching for op amps and the supply voltage helper didn't show up. Is this a bug?
