Damn I love TaydaElectronics
« on: April 10, 2013, 01:40:07 am »
I recently acquired a Circuit Specialist branded Array 3645A PSU that was not working. I needed a few things to repair it and Tayda had by far the best price on the TIP35C $0.99 (versus $1.48 @ mouser or $1.71@Digikey). I noticed that Tayda seemed pretty cheap so I decided to order a a whole bunch of things and compare a few of the major sites (Digikey, Mouser, Jameco and Tayda) on price. If I could compare apples to apples I would, so I would price the exact same part # across sites. If that wasn't an option I would go with the cheapest equivalent.

The results:
Digikey: $165.33 + shipping
Mouser: $136.84 + shipping
Jameco: $90.98 + shipping (Jameco didn't have everything so for things it didn't have I just used the Tayda price so as not to skew it)
Tayda: $56.52 (this is before the 15% off coupon that was available).

I'm not sure how much shipping is for each site above but Tayda was only $6.65. On top of that everything was in nice small labeled baggies and it arrived in 7 days.

Fyi Tayda is located in Thailand which is still a developing country.

Apart from maybe the huge different at the shipping charges like those cut throat Fedex/UPS/DHL vs Thai's government backed postal office charges, I believe Tayda's employees don't have lots of benefits compared to say like Digikey does, just watch below video for your self, they got best around pension plan, best medical cover ... and so on.

So there is no contest here about the operating cost, hence the merchandise's high price mark-up.

Were the transistors sold by Tayda the same brand as the Digikey or Mouser ones?

I often see transistors for sale on AliExpress, etc and wonder if they are any good (meet spec).

I've ordered a couple of times from Tayda and pretty happy with the service. Only problem I had was when I chose DHL to get the parts quicker. The package was opened by customs and somehow they (customs) put someone elses order in my package when they closed it back up and my order in someone elses package. Long story short, I got a few bottles of "penis enlargement pills" and someone else must have been really disappointed to receive a package full of pots and other various electronic components. It took DHL more than a week to give up trying to communicate with Tayda, apparently the language barrier was the problem, I had to file a paypal dispute before I got my money back and was able to reorder the same stuff again :palm:

Anyway the fault was not Tayda so I don't blame them. It was a customs issue and the second order arrived just fine and this time customs didn't mess around with it thankfully. Had me wondering how many of these so called penis enlarging pills are being purchased and are they being purchased by people that get the spam emails (you know the one's I'm talking about). Either way everyone at the office had a good laugh about it so it wasn't a complete loss  ::)

Tayda may also be selling production rejects.

Ah ha,  so it was customs who put the ladies lingerie in one of Dave's mailbox deliveries.

Tayda may also be selling production rejects.

Is that a mere speculation or do you have something that pointed you in that direction?

I wouldn't say I love them, but I sure do business with them.  Their prices are good, but not unbeatable.

I usually go to them for a base line on price, then see if there is a soon-to-end auction on the same item.  I decide base on how long I have to wait.

So far, Tayda has not failed me yet.  3 or 4 orders, arrive to East Coast USA 1-2 weeks.  Item always in good shape.  I will probably be placing my next order with them shortly.

I've never ordered fixed resistors from tayda but every other china source like ebay or other, I have always been disappointed that the leads are really thin and don't go into a breadboard nicely. Now I get all my resistors from element14 and they have always been excellent even the multicomp ones. Only downside is you have to order quite a qty to get the price per resistor as low as tayda. The ones from tayda may be different than the china ebay ones I have ended up with plus maybe I have just been unlucky. I would like to hear back from anyone re the quality of the resistors from tayda particularly the lead thickness.  :)

the leads are a bit thin, on the carbon films, its pretty bad but on metal films it's not bad.

I order stuff from Tayda, Future Electronics, Mouser, etc.
If I need to order a bunch of capacitors in small quantities I found that only places like Mouser or DigiKey have most of the parts with the Brands or specifications I need. Future Electronics used to be good too but they don't seem to sell capacitors in small quantities anymore. Tayda's selection of capacitors is really poor.
