i dont thing thats an appropriate advice to "kids" esp if they bought expensive and "still under warranty" stuff. my 2cnts.

Completely depends on if it requires you to cut or indicate in any way that it was disassembled.  At 6 years old, my mom would sit me with a big bowl and a mechanical toy.  I took everything apart that I could.  I didn't get all of them back together.  But I learned how most worked.  Knowledge is the point.  :)
