Cheap Tablets, how low can they go?
« on: January 25, 2016, 08:00:41 am »
I have two x86 tablets. One is a 7" display Winbook TW700 that cost me $39, and the other is an 10.1" display RCA Cambio W101 V2 which has a detachable keyboard that I got the other day at Walmart for $98

Both are running Windows 10.

I'm just amazed how cheap they've gotten.

The Winbook has a 16GB of flash and 1GB of DDR3 RAM, 1280x800 and the RCA has 32GB flash and 2GB of DDR3 RAM.  Both have an air cooled Intel Atom (Bay Trail) processor.

The Cambio W101 V2 is currently $98 in Walmart. (Or at least the one in Sherman, Texas) but has an MSRP of $179

I looked around for a bottom end 9" tablet - and found one for US$65 delivered, but that was nearly two years ago.  Dual core, 8GB of flash, 512MB RAM, Android 4.2, WiFi, dual camera, screen resolution only 800 x 480.  I haven't put a lot on it and it's too slow for multitasking.  You get what you pay for.

It's OK, though.  I've found a nice jukebox app that runs on it quite happily, so I will be setting it up in an old jukebox (the half-sized type) I rescued from the kerb.

It would be interesting to see what's on offer now.
