75th Anniversary of the Transistor
« on: December 16, 2022, 06:55:15 pm »
On December 16th, 1947 John Bardeen and Walter Brattain first achieved the transistor effect in a point-contact germanium device at Bell Labs, starting a revolution in semiconductors that continues to this day.

75th Anniversary of the Transistor

Or was it Julius Edgar Lilienfeld, who patented the FET on October 22, 1925?
Best Regards, Chris

I wasn't quite in on the inception, but as a 9 year old, I got into RC model airplanes.  I used  a kit for the transmitter and was clueless.  A lot later (1957), I was playing with electronics per se.  This is one of my first booklets on that subject (1957):1665766-0

I built a PCB with a flip-flop.  My  mom wasn't impressed.  ;)

Well, Julius' work helped pave the way to the first practical transistor but he did not really build one. That said, IMO he should have been acknowledged by the Nobel prize organization, but their decisions can be a mystery sometimes... :-\

Oh, the "whys" of the datasheets... The information is there not to be an axiomatic truth, but instead each speck of data must be slowly inhaled while carefully performing a deep search inside oneself to find the true metaphysical sense...
