Can we just keep the political bickering out of here please?

This seems like a pretty cool accomplishment, and infinitely more interesting than the political relationship between China and Australia.

It's part of western culture to criticize the establishment.

What's the purpose of criticizing without proposing a feasible solution? You know, we as humans are utilitarians, that allowed us to evolve to this day. What you want to achieve by criticizing without finding a solution? I just don't get it. You need to do something for something.

No. I just don't understand why when it comes to positive things from China why some Westerners can't have a rational discourse.

Someone made the joke of the spaceship hitting the Earth but missing it's target. This is quite common with these machines. On one occasion, the U.S. missed landing in the Paciifc Ocean and splattered a space craft all over the west of the Australian continent. The U.S. said 'Hey, sorry about that.' The Australian Govt responded by sending the U.S. a clean-up bill. A bill that is still outstanding, by the way..

Yep. We were just having fun in and around this news story and the local news stories here. Too bad that the sense of humor does not translate so well.

The latest update known published about 16 hours ago as this writing, are the update by chief of Spanish INTA Maspalomas Station radio antenna tracking the Chang'e 5 and also preparation at landing site.

So did samples landed? I hope China will keep study at least partially open, world need new info about moon :)

P.S. It seems some engineers in topic are not smart enough to act respectably and aside from politics.

Hey guys, are having a real fight here!  :box:
Don't hold a grudge, we are all human, we can make mistakes, we are influenced by propaganda.
The power in the world belongs to the money bags, they are clinging to their teeth and will never miss their profit. In some countries, these monsters are more loyal to their population and give more benefits, in some they simply suck everything out of people.
Life does not have simple and unambiguous solutions, there are always many nuances.

We don't need to fight for a long time here - a little noise and it's time to put up.  :phew:
And sorry for my English.

Maybe its better to ban people who is clearly offensive and igniting non-engineering political fights in purely scientific threads? Especially those who are not really participating in forum and just came for politics.
Its not fair to lock interesting thread because of them.

Not sure if this is correct, but according to CGTN news site, they will broadcast a special live coverage at 01:00 - 17th Dec at Beijing time, approx. 4 hours from now at the time this post is made.  :-//

-> Live: Special coverage of China's lunar mission Chang'e-5

One thing pop out of my mind is my sympathies of the land recovery team, as looking at the terrain and its midnight there, must be freezing like hell now like the preparation video below shows.  :-\

Found an interesting video from German news DW that interviewed ESA scientist about this mission, that China deliberately use complicated method rather than simpler one, even they're capable of, interesting.

-> Chang’e 5: China says it will share its lunar samples with global scientific community

National gifts? The article is from the South China Morning Post (headquartered in Hong Kong, which is now under the Chinese Communist Party control). "Relevant countries" of course excludes Australia without a doubt unless we yield to the Chinese side and allow their government controlled companies to infiltrate Australia. The USA is also excluded in the research unless they also yield to the demands of the CCP.

Compare with Japan's Hayabusa2 asteroid-sampling mission. A great example of international cooperation between genuinely friendly countries. A mission so fantastic, it sounded like science fiction. It will be interesting to find out what knowledge collected from the pebble/soil samples will yield for the benefit of man's understanding of the universe. This project is model of honesty, integrity, cooperation and incredible engineering skill. I recall the friendly, cooperative, and strong technical relationship between USA and Australia which resulted in mankind transmitting the live video of Neil Armstrong first stepping on the moon. No strings attached.

Isn't it right to give it to a friendly country?

Congratulations is well deserved to everybody involved in the mission. This is a huge accomplishment and one that should not be trivialized. They successfully brought back sampled material using an autonomous space craft under ground control.

A toast to the Chinese and all the people of Earth.

May all humanity continue together in space, in an atmosphere of cooperation far far into the future.

Personally, really-really eager to hear, what are the "major" differences (as public audience), on the soil they dug up, especially the one at that special crater called Ocean of Storm.

I hope they open it up soon.

A search on Ocean of Storm brought up this selfie

(from Apollo 12)

Looks like a nifty antenna for space hobbyists!
