Coincidence
« on: July 07, 2024, 02:01:08 pm »
Tonight I went and got some takeaway food for the family and on the way back I turned the AM car radio on. I passed under these 432 KV powerlines and there is a pretty strong electric field as you pass under and that makes the radio go all 50Hz blurty. And I just happened to notice the song that was playing on the radio at that very moment was AC/DC‘s High Voltage. I kid you not. ⚡️🤪

Too bad it wasn't Electric Six's Danger! High Voltage

When you turned onto the highway, did the song change to "highway to hell"?  >:D

I think there was just a higher probability of AC/DC being played on AM radio, just for you oldies.  :box:

Going back many decades, I do think I remember the signal going out when our car went under high power lines. Is it the electric field from the lines? Or were the lines acting as a huge antenna, perhaps sucking up the radio energy? Or some other effect?
Currently developing STM8 and STM32. Past includes 6809, Z80, 8086, PIC, MIPS, PNX1302, and some 8748 and 6805. Check out my public code on github. https://github.com/unfrozen

I remember losing AM reception when going over bridges with the steel girder arches overhead.
Same thing could happen with power lines overhead, but with that it's probably more about the EMI swamping out the signal.
