Need a REAL blue light blocker screen film
« on: July 16, 2024, 12:50:31 pm »
Hi.

I'm not going to argue about the actual medical effect or necessity here, as it's not clear even among scientists. I just need one so I feel comfortable.

Currently all so called "anti blue light screen filters" I could find are just fake, crystal clear, filter nothing.

I'm using 2 methods now:
1. Software solutions: such as xcalib on Linux. (For my optimal felling, the blue channel is only 1/3 intensity of red, you get my taste...)
2. Rosco lighting filter. They even have full spectrum test curve for each model.

However, method 1 do not work when not in GUI, or not on a computer(like my field monitors).
Method 2 introduce a lot of reflections, because lighting filters are glossy finish, and don't stick/bond to screen.

So, are there any real color filters that have matte finish, and can stick to screens like a protector film?

Thanks.

Perhaps you can search for yellow eyeglasses. Perhaps those used for work with lasers.
With a pair of eyeglasses you don't need to put filters on every screen.
The problem with matte finish is that, if the lcd has already a matte finishm stacking another makes the image blur.

Is this something that is temporarily applied only at night, or you want always active?
If its only at night then I'd agree the yellow glasses would be a better option, since you don't have to keep placing and removing films.

Some (many, for the recent ones) monitors do include such modes (which give a yellowish tint to everything), not depending on the source itself. If your monitor(s) don't support this, then buying new ones just for that option is probably not worth it, but that's something to check first.

Thank you all.
I've been recommended with glasses on other forums, but I really don't like that approach...

Is this something that is temporarily applied only at night, or you want always active?
I want it permanent.

I know that, but 1. many of them are not sufficient for me, 2. sometimes I have to use monitors without such function.

Thank you guys anyway.

If you turn on a yellow tint in your preferred OS, the amount of blue light from the panel will be reduced considerably.  I use software called f.lux to do this, Windows has a basic version built in.  For framebuffer mode, in Linux, you could try running your terminals in a GUI or using a framebuffer module that you can apply a filter to, there are accelerated framebuffers available in Linux now.

You will find an externally applied colour filter will have about the same effectiveness as the panel's built in filters.

If you want an hardware system, in times of vga it was easy, but you can buy a hdmi to vga converter and a vga to hdmi, and interconect the two, but leavin unconnected blue. This is a kludge, but you can carry from a monitor to another more easily than a filter. You can do also in digital way, whit a fpga, I think.
But the eyeglasses are easier to use, one pair for all, you can use with monitors that are not yours  and protect you from blue light coming from daylight, fluorescents, books etc.
