  • Absolutely! Yes, kind of, sort of, not really, no.
Yeah, I'll just go out and get some "Freon TF".

I remember that stuff from when I worked at a TV repair shop after school in my teens.  Got in trouble a few times for leaving the cap off.   :-[

Still have some R141B around, and it is a great cleaner as well. Buy it in 5l plastic drums as well, or a 20l steel drum. It is now in a disposacan and is pressurised with R22 to clean out burn ups from compressor failures. At least is is less of a carcinogen than the Trichlorethane in the video, though I did use that as a cleaner, magic at cleaning to bare metal. Leave a board in it too long and it becomes copper traces in gel.

Those that were sitting on pallets of R-12 when it was banned made out quite well.

R-134a has seen steep increases lately as well. The EPA is trying to get it banned from normal distribution, instead requiring a certification and license. Anything to make themselves feel relevant, I suppose.

And ironically, it's pretty easy to find R134a in the form of duster cans and freeze sprays.

For cooling stuff, Enviro-Safe is a good alternative to those CFCs and HCFCs. (I have used ES22a in a central unit about 6 years ago, unit still works great last time I checked.) I have no idea how well they work as cleaning solvents, but they carry oil better than the CFCs and HCFCs they replace.
