Yeah, you guys are right.  VME / DIN 41612.  Used with Eurobus and Nubus.  Looks like 3x32 was the standard.  Thanks!

the designer of that was a lunatic. DIN has some good connectors on file, but this is just stupid.

it's actually not an edge connector it's a pin connector sorta like a DB/DSUB connector, but stupidly overscale. Dave has some I think in the visual effects generator video.

This connector was designed in the 1970s, and is not overscale. It has normal .100" spacing. It provides correct connector orientation without wasting any space for key slots. It is also a gas-tight and vibration resistant connector, and is specified for many military products.

For modern interface busses, denser connector series like Molex EBBI or TE VITA would be a better choice.

We use these in a product plugged/unplugged by the customer. Yes they do get bent sometimes during shipping, and are a pain to re-align.
But its not horrific, it works well enough in general.

The molex EBBI mentioned looks like it would be a good replacement.

If anyone cares, I found it on this video.  This is a guy who did a homebrew 68030 computer.  The computer is on a card and then he has a peripheral card, both plugged into this backplane card.  Mostly I was asking because I had never seen this type of connector before.  I've been a PC guy forever and mostly have seen PC-like card connectors in the Apple II and other older computers.  It looks like his computer was a heck of a lot of work and the board itself looks as good as a professional one.

The pins are pretty well protected by the shrouding.  A two row version was used on boards at a previous job that I had (2 per board with 2 boards in each system); out of several hundred that were built, went out into the field and came back for service over the course of 8-10 years I can't recall ever encountering a bent pin on any of them.

It is neither stupid nor overscale. It is simply older than you (to put it mildly).
