SPI flash programming
« on: January 26, 2011, 11:35:48 pm »
Can anyone suggest a good way to program code into a common SPI flash, like a 25VF064? Speed is not an issue since I only need to write a 128kB or so bootloader. In particular, I'm looking for a Linux program and simple circuit that makes use of the serial port. (I'm upgrading the Flash in some of my routers.)

Ponyprog looks a lot like what I'm after except it does not support large SPI Flash devices.

flashrom? I believe it supports a bunch of different external interfaces, not sure if this includes dumb serial programmers.

Bus Pirate - comes in handy all the time. Its FTDI serial. You would have to write your own script (python) for the programming. EDIT: or maybe not, supports the above mentioned flashrom
