Orbital SOLAR unit does A.I. heavy lifting
« on: September 21, 2024, 04:43:23 pm »
Microsoft folks have idea, and proceeding to negotiate use of Three Mile Island nuclear power, doing the heavier aspects of A.I.
Wow, as an enterprise that's a surprise and brings up 'memories' of late 1970's emerging 'BIG'.   As in having large, man-made events that have deep effects (or social after-effects).

As an enterprise looking to expand A.I. markets could now start planning some similar motivated Space or Earth orbiting units that do the heavy portions of calculation loads,  meanwhile communicating with Earth bound customers.   It could be Solar, or even some nuclear power source.

Interesting thing, the basic idea isn't new, having roots in Science Fiction, although there are modern takes, on suitability factors.

'Nukes Bad', being the idea put forth during the 1979 risks from plant explosions, or container breaches.   THAT mind-set got replaced, over the ensuing years, (by the Global Warming trend).

I suppose part of whats got overlooked is the intense energy required, vs real or perceived advantages of using A.I. solutions.
