Anti-Static solutions for workstation chairs
« on: December 09, 2014, 08:03:05 pm »
I am wondering what some of you do for anti static in your chairs. I recently switched from a leather chair to a cloth chair at the office and I am shocking everything in site when I get out of the chair. Anyone have any solutions? I see anti static floor mats but don't know if any are worth the investment, there are also sprays and the option of getting a chair that is not cloth. Just here scouting for some ideas. Thanks

Get some fabric softener ( it makes loth less clingy that is to say it kills static )

mix up a recommended solution and spray on the chair

Nailing your feet to the floor prevents any static being generated :)

There are actual static dissipative chairs and lab stools you can purchase for ESD safe areas. You would probably need to use them with a ground mat for best results. I'm sure a quick Google search would turn up results in your area.

Get ESD shoes. They made all the difference for me.

E.g. http://www.all-spec.com/products/C1001-013.html

Ha! I never considered there might be ESD-safe shoes. They're kind of funny

My solution to that is to just not wear shoes or socks in the workshop, thereby not forming foot capacitors, but an office environment might frown on that ;D

Anti-Static solutions for workstation chairs

A solid lead work-bench and the technician sitting fully naked on it?

Nothing can possibly go wrong there. :)

I have absolutely no problem with static build up, 70% humidity at a minimum all year round. Summer it can go up to 110%.
