Wikipedia for Engineering

I had this thought in passing and thought I would throw it out there to see what others thought.  I was working on a circuit design for school and ran into a problem (I won't go into it here), I spent a few hours searching through the internet before turning up something that helped.

I thought that having a wiki for engineering (or electronics engineering specifically) would be extremely helpful.  Someplace where people could talk about the reality associated with designing certain types of circuits, DC-DC converters or battery chargers or whatever.  Knowing the math or theory behind something is one thing but actually implementing it is another thing entirely.

I didn't spend much time looking through Google to see if this exists, I only spent about 15 minutes and my search turned up nothing.  Anyway it would be nice to see what other people think of this idea, maybe it already exists and my quick search missed it.

Do it. Hosting is not very expensive. Wikipedia's mediawiki software is free.

And if you manage to solve one particular problem you might get a Nobel price. I call it the electrician problem. Wikipedia suffers from it. You can put up a correct explanation and equation on a wiki. Unavoidably someone will show up and "simplify" it. E.g. replacing 2*pi*f with 377 ...

There is a reason why we old farts still prefer text books from reputable publishers and authors. To be found in a library nearby.

There's already a tool--more like a webring with integrated browser add-on than a wiki--called StumbleUpon.  It works with Firefox.   I don't know if it works with another browser.   If you post your email address I'll send you an invitation and the URL if I can find it.     Categories include electrical engineering, electronics parts, physics, and semiconductors.     You can "stumble" within a category, but you cannot "search" within a category.   For that, use a search engine like startpage.com or dogpile.com.
