WTB: Fluke 12 for parts
« on: May 18, 2016, 02:32:07 am »
Hey guys/gals, I'm looking for a Fluke 12 parts DMM. I have one but the buttons aren't working, it's a great newbie DMM so I'd like to get it up and running to loan to friends learning and maybe someday give it to my Nephew. I know it's a long shot but let me know if any of you have one you'd let go for cheap. Thanks :)

I have one but the buttons aren't working,
Try cleaning the zebra strips and solder pads.  See these two threads that might help.

Already did, the issue is with the leads going to the zebra strips, they're worn nearly away. I appreciate the links though :)

I can't remember if it was this model or another Fluke 8, 10 or 11 model, but someone reported they had success taking the free or $3 Harbor Frieght multimeter and using the lcd zebra strip from it.  He/she cut it down to the correct size it and reported it working (found link after some searching - see next post).

Here is a picture of the zebra strip from modemhead's website

Found it. See those free meters are useful for something!!  :-DD

"Had the same problem and it turned out to be a bad foam conduction strip between the switches and the pc board. The foam strip is not available from Fluke, but you can get a little $3 meter from Harbor Freight and take it apart, harvest the strip, cut it to length, and voila...you are back in business.

It is a zebra strip, and I just cut it to length and since it was thinner than the original Fluke strip was, I used two of them sandwiched. I didn't do anything to hold the two strips together but I didn't need to, just stuffed 'em in there and powered it up. I did this fix a couple of months ago and it has been working flawlessly ever since."

LOL, I'll give it a shot but the wear is attached to the buttons, the zebra strip seems fine.

If I can't find something I might just try to booger up some tact switches.  I wonder if the HF meter's strips fit in the 87V? Might try it when my screen starts to fade...it would be soo wrong, haha

*Edit: By the way, I really appreciate your responses and attempts to help :)
