I remember using, in ancient DOS times, PROTEL Autotrax, and I'm still in love with it.
Never found a simpler user interface....
Is this a modern version of Protel? The name suggest this.
If so, the price is really interesting.

It is a completely different project from the old Protel Autotrax.  I am not a salesman for the software just a user.  I don't use the software for production although I believe that I could.  This package has a lot of nice features and is quite intuitive.  Hopefully some others can give you more information.  I merely wanted to let people know about the "deal", as I do believe it is a pretty good deal for what you get.

Illija is very responsive about fixing bugs and adding features too.

I am evaluating this software right now.
How do you adjust the with of the traces?
Also, when do you think you will have the surface mount support on capacitors and resistors?

Thanks

Hi

AutoTRAX DEX has nothing to do with Protel. Altium abandoned their version decades ago. They never trademarked the name. I did.
It's like chalk and cheese...

•   Very low overheads
•   Volume. When overheads are low they are quickly covered by sales.
•   I love DEX. DEX is a passion, not a 9-5 job.

There is only one version, no versions with restrictions - I believe this is dishonest.
What would you think if you bought a car and the passenger seats were chained up and the saleman demanded more to unchain them with each seat carrying an extra charge.

After a reboot it started to work. But it is extremely slow. Practically it is unusable on my work system: AMD Athlon 64 X2,  2.6GHz (dual core), 4GB RAM, GeForce FX5500 256MB.

the fact that dex needs netfx or something (if i read it correctly) makes it quite slow and buggy. just now i got distorted interface where color swatch is on the top, wrong gui interface scaling etc. i uninstall and install there's one file unable to overwrite, when i open task manager, there are alot of dex.exe not unloaded. the author should check the program cleanup during termination.

i'm still looking the way to create part that has more than one component in it. for example dual or quad opamp, it is one part, but 4 electrical components in it, ie 4 opamps, how do i make such part and put all opamps in schematics and the program will know they are all from the same part?

uninstall install reboot didnt help, it must be some registry entry didnt get deleted during uninstall, this is how it renders right now (it was ok the first time i install it)... so where is the entry i need to edit to reset this workspace?

The board was auto-routed with Electra. Many  people love it, but yes you are right, a good designer can do a better job. It's time and skill.

If you wish, It would great if you could manually route it and I will add it to the web site so we could all compare.

Tell me when it's done, I really look forward to seeing it.

Aint gonna happen. For two reasons:

1) I use altium. I will play a bit with DEX just to see what it is but i have a very high 'demand level' of software. PCB design software needs to be more than a replacement for pen and paper... I'll give some feedback after playing.
2) i wouldn't be caught dead with an arduino ... ( just kidding about 2 , not kidding about 1)

99% of the autorouters stink. Period.
The remaining 1% can do a good job provided they are driven by someone who knows what he is doing and takes the time to set up the router properly. And write the routing specifications out. Garbage in = garbage out and this applies to autorouters as well. For the other 99% of the routers even 'quality in' = 'garbage out'. Simply because they don;t know how to deal with rule sets or lack in the definition capability there-of.

The advice is that you will not get good support, I bought this software and I had a lot of problems with it, the recommendation from the owner was to format the computer ! What ?

I did it anyways, I had to format the computer, with the same results, the software never worked fine, I asked for a refund since it never worked and guess what ? No refunds, no support, nothing.

I don't recommend this product, also the software looks like a toy, Eagle, Kicad and others are better, don't bother with this.

The owner will post and will try to defend himself from my previous post.

I had the bad experience and I think that I need to tell what happened to me.

I'm wondering why the price is lower now compared when I bought it 3 years ago !

Did you heard about this software before ? This is not new, and it is not good.

( This post is from an angry ex-DEX user, well the software never worked so I cannot say I was a user anyways )

Well,
If the developer of this software is serious enough i see no reason why you cannot get the latest version free for 1 year .But if every time you have the issue of not working software ,Then seriously something is wrong at your end and not the end of the developer .Thing about it .He has several thousand users as he claims in his website .I am trying it out right now and it is working perfectly fine  ? .He is not ending you and me different codes right ? .think about this

PS :  Developer is urged to send him a free version this actually send a strong active support message to all

I will flesh out the manual in the next few days, it has always been my intention.

The videos are extremely important and not ‘stupid’.  The YouTube site has 20,442 views and 77 subscribers.  Try watching them along side DEX, you will soon pick it up.

AutoTRAX DEX is not designed for students in particular. It’s designed to do the job not to teach.

AutoTRAX DEX assumes you know sonething about Electronics, like Microsoft Word expected you have an ability to read and write in your chosen language.  There are many book out there on electronics.
AutoTRAX DEX have been designed and releases iteratively. This allow DEX to hit the mark and not have months and months between releases.

If I sell you a software, it does not work on your computer, after several checkings/recommendations the software still crashes.

I ask you to format the complete pc, you do that, the software still does not work ( crashes)  I tell you the problem is in your side that I cannot do anything else to help you and I cannot refund your money

Will you be happy ?
